arTRAIN program offers professional training in arts integration for art teachers and classroom teachers. National trainers offer certification of PD hours for classroom teachers.
What is Arts Integration? According to the Kennedy Center there are three forms of arts education curriculum: Arts as Curriculum. Arts as Enhanced Curriculum and Arts Integrated curriculum. Arts as curriculum is traditional arts classes such as fine art, music and theater. Arts enhanced curriculum is when an artistic technique is utilized to teach another subject, such as sculpting a volcano in science class. Arts Integrated, as defined by the Kennedy Center for Arts Integration is; Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate learning through an art form. Both the art and the other subject are equally taught.
