Painting in Watercolor, Arylic and Oil

PAINTING COURSE Oct 30-Nov 17

Painting is two weeks, 1 hour per week for 1st-5th and 3 weeks for 6th-8th.  There will be a make-up week available Nov 13th-17th for the art teacher to come back into classrooms that need more time or had to reschedule a lesson.

Expressive Self-Portrait 1st-8th
Using watercolor or acrylic paint and mirrors, students will create a self-portrait that tells their own unique story. Students will be guided through each step of creating a self portrait, while learning the geometry of the human face, how to mix skin tone colors and make expressive brush strokes. Week 1 students will be guided through drawing their self-portraits, we will focus on understanding composition and capturing their likeness. Week 2 students will finish their self-portrait with acrylic paint, as they learn about complementary colors, color mixing techniques, and creative ways to apply their own style to their work. At the end of the class, students will have a beautiful and unique self-portrait to share with their families and be treasured for years to come.
Oil Painting Landscapes – FOR STUDENTS 6th-8th
Are your students ready to take their art journey to the next level? In this class students will learn college level techniques for creating a classical oil painting and the chemistry behind oil paint and its various mediums. Week 1 will take the students through the process of creating an underpainting by focusing on the large shapes of light, dark and midtone values to create strong compositions. Week 2 students will complete their paintings in full color, while learning about color theory and representational painting techniques. At the end of the class, students will have enough knowledge about oil painting to continue self-study in this medium if they chose to.

 

Print-making

PRINT-MAKING COURSE Jan 8-Jan 26

Print-making course is two weeks, 1 hour per week.  There will be a make-up week available Jan 22nd-26th for the art teacher to come back into classrooms that need more time or had to reschedule a lesson.

Print Making: Relief Block Printing with Repurposed Foam 1st-3rd

Printmaking is an art process where ink is transferred from a printing plate onto paper. In relief printmaking, artists carve designs into wood or linoleum. Ink does not go into the places that the artist carved away, similar to a stamp. In this modified block printing lesson students will use repurposed foam and ink to create their
own block print design. Students will practice printing their designs in multiple colors to create a mini booklet
to showcase their work.

Linocut Block Printing for Grades 4-8

Students will explore the step by step process of linocut block printing through carving, transferring and printing an image they design. Rubber stamping material and specialized cutting tools will be used in this printmaking lessons. Students will use their print to practice printing in multiple colors and will have the opportunity to create a mini book to showcase their work.

Ceramics

CERAMICS COURSE Feb 5th-16th and Feb 26-March 1

Ceramics course is three weeks, 1 hour per week.  There will be a make-up week available for the art teacher to come back into classrooms that need more time or had to reschedule a lesson.

Ceramics 1st-3rd Grades

The heart is a universal symbol for love and this clay heart art lesson will allow students to work with clay and celebrate the love they have in their hearts. Lesson will incorporate social-emotional learning.  Students will learn basic hand building techniques to create and decorate a clay heart shaped project.

Materials-Clay, clay tools, brayer/rolling pin, kiln, objects to make texture

Ceramics 4th-8th Grades

In this lesson, students will learn basic hand building techniques to create a clay bobblehead sculpture. Students will explore ideas for their piece with inspiration from family, hobbies, or daily life.  Students will use creative problem solving to create a unique an original bobblehead, while applying craftsmanship to create and finish their piece with glaze.

Mixed-Media

MIXED MEDIA COURSE April 15th-26th

Mixed Media course is two weeks, 1 hour per week.  There will be a make-up week available April 29- May 3rd for the art teacher to come back into classrooms that need more time or had to reschedule a lesson.

Mixed Media Upcyling Or Mask Making 1st-8th Grades

Upcycling

Students will be asked to bring recycled materials from home to create a mix-media art piece.  Students will learn about the importance of re-use and recycling for our environment. Students will learn about art composition, mix media design and texture.

Masks

Students will discuss the use of costume and design throughout history to present day and its use in storytelling among cultures.  Students will make a mask using inspiration from their own culture, family or environment.

Pastels

PASTELS COURSE May 6th-17th

Pastels course is two weeks, 1 hour per week.  There will be a make-up week available May 20th-24th for the art teacher to come back into classrooms that need more time or had to reschedule a lesson.

Soft Pastels 1st-3rd Grades

Students will learn about local birds, what seasons bring changes to wildlife, sense of movement and texture, manipulation of material to create texture with soft pastel techniques.

Oil Pastels 4th-8th Grades

Students make a connection between the process of artmaking and chemical mixing processes. They learn how mixing colors is making a new substance with new properties. Students learn about color as an element of art and design and focus on the chemical substance of color. When two substances are mixed another color appears. Example: blue and red paint mixed makes green. The new substance absorbs red and reflects green.  Students will learning the techniques of oil pastels.
